A Letter from Jim Ogston

It is always interesting how the other side (CAPCS and city hall) always make ludicrous comments how we (their opposition and the general public) are responsible for the misinformation and confusion when you only have to read their replies, double talk and yes “studies” to realize that the source of all this malarkey is from them themselves. For a body of people that claim to hold law degrees, teacher degrees and masters in ??? I am amazed the amount of BS they disseminate to the public. They use these same credentials and claims that they are well read to give their cause the foul aroma of legitimacy. They prey on the ignorance of the public and this is in my mind insidious and far beneath any claim to be “Positive Community Standards”. Taking reports, studies from other credible (or not so credible), or making their own juvenile study as the justification of their puritan utopia and then project this to the unknowledgeable masses is not only deplorable but repugnant.
As a researcher I am fully aware that studies can be altered to match the theorem of the researcher but to read this CAPCS study that would warrant an “F” at any academic level including Kindergarten/preschool and then use this study to ensnare a group of civic lawmakers is criminal. Rather than distance themselves from the CAPCS study four council members have chosen to ignore the municipal government act regarding proper representation of its electorate. Five council members have realized they have been duped and have opted for good governance but the fab four continue to misrepresent Medicine Hat citizens by promoting false information to its masses and in Dumanowski’s words offend the decency of same citizens. All citizens should voice a demand for a public apology from this ignorant politician and the mayor if he had any decency and a smidgen of leadership would admonish the offending councilor publicly as well. His failure to do so last council meeting is complacency in how CAPCS and his other 3 council members have failed to dutifully represent Medicine Hat in accordance with the Municipal Government Act. If Smith demands that council remember their obligations to the Municipal Government Act then she/they must follow suit. If not then my past statements that Council are the lapdogs of CAPCS rings true and the public should view any fairness of representation as a fallacy and demand an inquiry from the Minister of Municipal Affairs in Edmonton. Council members swear an oath to god when they take office, so if they are willing to use the church as their support then perhaps we as citizens of Medicine Hat should hold them accountable to that oath particularly if they refuse to separate church from state
