Disturbing news about our Schools
Feb 6th, 2009 by Jim Ogston
Here is a bit of news that will be hitting the news soon about a group (religious oriented) entering several school (and looking to expand into more) teaching their own brand of “sex education” to our students. When questioned about it back in around summer time the group was evasive and reluctant to give details because it was not to start until this March (ish). Yet this group is now teaching its principals to the students as I speak. When pressed with details on the topics and criterion the/a representative of this group became belligerent and threatening. The group is a prolife group and the jest of the classes to be taught to students is about family planning/anti abortion and NOT similar to the classes already being taught by public health employees in schools now. This is funded by a religious oriented private citizen/donors and to date have apparently over $70,000 to the cause.
The question is but not being answered is why the duplication of services and what is the type of education being administered, plus does it have the acknowledgement and the backing/agreement of parents in these schools targeted.
While I am not saying it has an aroma of CAPCS it is given the reporter the air of stench and tactics similar to them. Some of the characters attached to CAPCS appear to be attached to this attempt to push their idealogy onto our youth in a not so upfront and open manner. When they become quarrelsome and insulting and dismissive when asked it sends the hackles in the back of my neck a standing. Are we about to have our children indoctrinated in not so “positive community standards”.
This group by the way will be setting up a “Clinic” in the building near the Hill Safeway (same building as the old “Eagles Nest” office and yes an indicator of the person/group behind this sly endeavour) and will have “advisers/nurses” stationed there to council individuals (i.e. pregnant). Could these people be wittingly using our schools as a way of attracting them/kids to their “clinic”? They refuse to say.
Tenille Tellman of the Medicine Hat News is running a story about this issue. Tennille has reported that the Superintendent of Medicine Hat School district No. 76 was not aware the Agnes Adam Lee Centre organization was in the schools, Or of the content of the programs they are presenting. They have been banned from the schools for now pending a review of the materials.
Well it seems we have another group who feel that the rules do not apply to them. I will post more when I have done some research on this group. A couple of things are ringing alarm bells though. How were they in these schools presenting who knows what without the Superintendents knowledge?
Good job for us the superinendent Dr. Rossler stayed another year while we look for a replacement. I have to wonder if they had planned this before Dr Rossler made the announcement about staying on. Do they have their own candidate for superintendent? That may be worth a following up.
